  • Q: What food items are disinfected in UVMate?

Liquid food :It is known that UV-C light only penetrates a very short depth into the surface of liquids other than clear water. Hence liquids cannot be disinfected with UV Fruits and Vegetables: Can be used on fresh fruits, vegetables and roots before being stored to accomplish two objectives. Fish Poultry and Meat: Several types of meat can be treated by UV-C to reduce microbial surface contamination. The UV-C light used for disinfection does not change the colour or general appearance of fresh meat. It can be used on cooked items as well and as well on unopened food parcels

  • Q : Does UV Mate operate on battery?

The current version of UV Mate works solely on electricity.

  • Q: What is the power rating for UV Mate?

The power rating is 8 W.

  • Q: How hot do the lamps get?

Germicidal UVC lamps do not produce much heat - about the same as fluorescent lamps.

  • Q: Can UV Mate be kept on continuously?

Yes, depending on need, one can keep it on for long hours. The UV C bulb has a life of 9000 hrs, and can be replaced easily at end of its usage.

  • Q. What is the warranty given on UV lamps

Device defects found within 10 days of purchase will be replaced by the company. Further, the lamps have a lifetime of 9000 hrs or 375 days, during which it is covered with warranty.

  • Q: Can UV Mate be used to disinfect N95 masks (and other personal protective equipment, PPE)? What is the process for disinfecting N95 masks with UV disinfection lighting?

First, it’s vital to note that most PPE, like N95 masks, is not meant to be used more than once. That said, the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a shortage of PPE, forcing the reuse of these products. Because they must be reused, disinfection is non-negotiable, and UV disinfection lighting is a great way to do it. When disinfecting the N95 masks we should ensure that both the sides have been exposed well to UV. The disinfection efficiency can be further enhanced by spraying with Hydrogen Peroxide. The protocol recommended by CDC, USA for this can be referred at this link below:

  • Q: How often do the lamps need to be replaced?

Germicidal UVC lamps are good for approximately 9000 hours of continuous use, with only 20% decrease in output over the two years.

  • Q: Can germicidal UV-C penetrate surfaces or substances?

UV-C is a great surface sterilizing agent however, it cannot penetrate inside objects

  • Q: What effects does UV Mate has on materials kept for disinfection?

Long-term exposure of germicidal UVC light to plastics will shorten the shelf life of the plastic by approximately 10%. Example: If the plastic would normally last about ten years, and it's exposed to germicidal UVC light the entire time, it would probably need to be replaced in 9 years. Transient dyes and colors may be faded only from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays.

  • Q. Does the UV Mate device produce chemicals or by-products?

No, it works by disinfection through radiation, with no chemical interaction with the goods, except in case of rare photosensitive materials such as glue polymers, dyes and photofilms

  • Q.Is UV-C harmful to humans?

Prolonged, direct exposure to UV-C light can cause temporary skin redness and eye irritation, but does not cause skin cancer or cataracts. At no time do germicidal lamps cause any permanent damage. Ultra-violet (UV) lamps should not be used to disinfect hands or other areas of your skin Do not allow prolonged exposure to ultraviolet irradiation and allow for safe operation and maintenance. If you are exposed to direct germicidal light, it can burn the top surface of your skin. If your eyes are exposed, it would be similar to a "welder's flash", and your eyes can feel dry or gritty.

  • Q:How can it UV Mate be used by Doctors?

Many secondary infections under hospital settings are caused by microbes that attach and grow on medical devices. UV Mate can be used for disinfecting medical devices, such as stethoscopes, dental prostheses.

  • Q: What articles can be disinfected using UV Mate?

UV-C shows an adequate capacity of disinfection and could be used for disinfecting everyday object (including but not limited to), such as mobile phones, money, television controls, newspaper, vegetables, fruits, groceries, delivery packages, cash, clothes, keys, pacifiers, unopened food parcels, etc.

  • Q: Can I use UV Mate safely in my home?

Yes – UV devices have been safely used in homes, as well as in hospitals, laboratories, clean rooms, clinics, commercial buildings, food processing plants and other commercial and residential environments throughout the world.

  • Q : How to Use UV Mate?

Open the UV Mate device from its folded condition.Place the open UVMate device over objects that you need to disinfect ( Spread over an area of 2X2).Plug in the device and switch it on for 10 mins.Upon completion, remove the disinfected items and refold, and safely, store the device for future use

  • Q.How much area is covered by UV Mate?

UV Mate when expanded has an area of 2X2 sq.ft. It has a height of 1 ft. when not in use it can be folded to a single folder file of 24 inches x 16 inches.

  • Q. How long does it take for UV Mate to kill microorganisms?

The following table gives the amount of dosage required to achieve 90% disinfection for most species of flu viruses, including Coronavirus. As above, the UV-C dose required to inactivate a specific organism depends on the type of the microorganism that is being targeted, the applied UV-C intensity and the time of exposure to UV-C. UVDI has an extensive database of dose values required to inactivate various bacteria, viruses and molds. With UV mate we estimate 99.99 %killing in less than 3 minutes. However, considering various shapes of objects being exposed, we recommend a treatment time of 10 minutes to achieve optimal disinfection.

  • Q Is UV-C effective against COVID-19?

Yes, it is. Several coronaviruses related to COVID-19 have been found to be susceptible to UVC energy. A previous study demonstrated that 10 min of UVC light inactivated 99.999% of previous Coronaviruses, SARS-CoV, and MERS-CoV. Also, some studies, provide more info specifically for COVID 19 strain here (Ref:

  • Q. How does UV disinfect?

Germicidal UV-C systems artificially generate a wavelength of 254 nm of light which destroys the genetic material (RNA and DNA) of microorganisms including viruses, bacteria and mold. Once deactivated, these microorganisms are no longer able to reproduce and grow on surfaces.

  • Q.What is UV C?

Emissions from the Sun include visible light, heat and ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Just as visible light consists of different colours that become apparent in a rainbow, the UV radiation spectrum is divided into three regions called UV-A, UV-B and UV-C. Among these, UV-C is found to be the most effective disinfectant against most microorganisms. It is the spectrum of electromagnetic radiation between 200nm to 280 nm.

  • Q. What is the working principle of UV Mate?

UV Mate uses the action of a UV-C germicidal lamp to disinfect everyday objects in commercial or residential environments. This method of disinfection is routinely used for water and air purification. It is also commonly used for disinfecting clean rooms, operation theatres and food processing units

  • Q. What is UV Mate?

UV mate is an ultra-portable disinfecting device for groceries, cash, devices and other day to day items. This folder shaped compact unit unfolds into a tent with a covering base of 4 square feet. Objects to be cleaned can be placed on the base of the tent, which is fitted with a UV C germicidal lamp capable of killing 99.99 % germs like viruses, bacteria and fungi. Once switched on the UV C light disinfects in matter of few minutes. The method of UV disinfection is widely used for killing germs in water, air and even hospital environments. Even in the current pandemic, it has been successfully applied and recommended for elimination of virus particles on surfaces. The treated goods remain unaffected and are completely safe for use. UV mate can be used for disinfecting both dry and wet objects. In fact treated vegetable and fruits have better storage due to killing of spoilage microbe on their surface.
